With the first day of Fall being tomorrow, I thought this would be an appropriate blog post for this week’s Behind the Scenes Tuesdays!
Our front porch barely gets any decorating, except for the main holidays of course - Halloween & Christmas. Halloween is probably the most decorated though, as I am just crazy about Halloween! For those who haven’t seen past years of the outside of our house, you’ll definitely see photos from this year.
With Fall being my husband and my favourite season, I really wanted to make the most out of our home. It’s been 4 years in our first home together this October, and we are sprucing things up all over the place - this weekend we have a paint company coming in to freshen up the main floor and part of our upstairs floor. Stay tuned for those photos! I am SO excited.
As for sprucing up the outside of the house, I thought I’d give the front porch a cozy Fall feel. We are trying to stick to a very strict budget these days especially with Christmas not too far away. So I found as many sales as I could to make this look come together and of course used items I already had as well.
We already had the large star on the brick wall, purchased from a country store in Buckhorn/Lakefield area a couple years ago. It basically stays out all year round (because I need to find some spring/summer decor, lol). The white antique chair was purchased at CraftWorks and Antiques at the Barn in Lakefield, again, a couple years ago.
I purchased the wooden crate from Michaels with a 50% off one regular item coupon, which dropped the price from $19.99 to $9.99 and they recently had their Fall decor marked down to 40% off, so I picked up this cute ‘Happy Fall’ sign while I was there! The wreath was made last year from products purchased at Michaels, you can’t go wrong with signing up for their emails. They always have great coupons!
The Mum was purchased this past weekend at Canadian Tire, I was driving past and noticed a sign out front that said $5.97, regular $9.99. So I picked up one for the chair, and one to hang on the hook by the garage to add some colour to the front of the house. The pumpkin glass jar was purchased from Dollarama for a whole $2.50 (nothing is ever a dollar there, but still some great finds!). I figured for glass that was going outside, I didn’t want it to be too expensive.
All of the Fall foilage that you see - pumpkins, pine cones, etc. I picked up at Dollarama as well as the fall leaves wrapped around the Mum. In total I spent close to $13.00 dollars there. I think all the colour really helped tie the whole look together.
There is still somethings I’d like to add, such as a Fall door mat and a monograme letter for our last name to the wreath. I am working on covering the letter now with twine. If you follow me on instagram you may see a picture of the finished product soon.
I love decorating and especially anything DIY. What sort of Fall decorating are you working on?
