Dickhoff Family | Durham Region Family Photographer

One of the best things about my job is photographing people that I’ve known for so many years. For those that have followed along for a while now or who know me personally, may have already known that Emily was my neighbour. We grew up on a country road in Brooklin. Brooklin’s a small town (or it use to be!) and so everyone basically knew everyone. So of course I also knew Leon mainly through my brothers, and their circle of friends and Emily and Leon found their way to each other and have created a beautiful life together. If you’ve followed along you know this couple has been through hardships and it’s always tough for me to find the words to write when doing a blog post of their photos, but what I can say is this, the memories I have the pleasure of capturing for them are that much more special and I am so happy that I can be their family photographer. Emily and Leon, your kids are so lucky to have you as their parents, you are such strong and good hearted human beings. I hope that my photos will continue to give you comfort and smiles each and everytime you look at them.

Andrea & Adam | Royal Ashburn Wedding

Another gorgeous September wedding from 2017…

This couple from their engagement session to their wedding day were ADORABLE and so comfortable in front of the camera right from the start, you could just see the love they had for one another from miles away - such a beautiful pair.

I love how their love story began, and you can read more of that from their engagement session post… seriously, go now - it’s the cutest and such a unique story too!

Andrea & Adam were married in front of their closest family and friends at the beautiful Royal Ashburn Golf Club - I always love capturing a wedding at this venue, it’s basically a part of me as I lived not far from this golf course and was a banquet server for many years from highschool to the beginning of my college years. I also brought my husband (then boyfriend) to many of the Christmas parties … those were always a fun time!!

So whenever I photograph a wedding here, I remember so many memories! So many late nights of serving, working 2 pm to 2 am shifts.. and now I am on the other side of things, instead of bringining appetizers to the bride and groom while they are getting their photos taken, I am the one taking those photos! It’s a crazy feeling to say the least but also SO MUCH FUN!

This wedding was beautiful from start to finish and the florals and decor…. breathtaking. The groom’s Uncle created the florals and they were just unbelievable. He is a florist in the UK and his work is gorgeous. They had so many beautiful touches with help from their family and friends, their day came together perfectly!

Andrea & Adam - I hope you are enjoying married life and continuing to make more wonderful memories together. I wish you two nothing but the best and hope to capture more memories for you two in the future!

Katie

Tasha & Dave | Kawartha Wedding Photographer

This wedding day was absolutely gorgeous from start to finish!

In 2017, I decided to take off the entire summer, from June-August I didn’t photograph one single wedding as my daughter was born in May and I wanted to focus all my attention to her as much as possible. So once September rolled around I had 3 weddings back to back and these two kicked off my short but beautiful Fall wedding season that year!

Tasha & Dave decided to get married at Dave’s sister and brother-in-laws beautiful country home in their backyard with a massive tent to fill with their closest family and friends. It was a beautiful day filled with so much love and best wishes for the happy couple.
I love a country wedding, especially a backyard wedding so I knew it was going to be a good day and boy was I right! An adorable couple in love, a fun wedding party, beautiful details and that perfect golden light.

Tasha & Dave, I hope you two have been enjoying newly wed life. I wish you two so many more wonderful years together as husband and wife! All the best!

Katie

Teddy Bear Tea Party Birthday & Cake Smash

I can’t believe 1 year has come and gone already. Our sweet Bronwyn Bear turned 1 on May 12th and we couldn’t imagine our life without her nor can we remember what life was like before her.

Each day is another day to enjoy every sweet moment with my daughter. Is it just me or when you have your first child, saying ‘my daughter’ or ‘my son’ takes a LONG time to get use too. It’s been a year and I am still not 100% use to saying it, I guess it goes the same for when you say ‘husband’ or ‘wife’ - it had just been myself and my hubby for so many years, that bringing life into this world and calling her our daughter still seems so surreal. Like a dream, but the best dream ever!!

She lights up our lives. Her shy, observing personality, sneaky smiles, and her silly little laughs! I am so amazed by her everyday, I can just sit and stare at her all day long. It’s the best feeling ever knowing I brought this beautiful sweet baby girl into this world, knowing that I am her Mom and get to experience so much joy with her.

We’ve been asked a few times over this past year what we call her, like a nic name of some sort. Well… she actually had a nic name before she was even born. I would talk to her in my stomach and call her Bronwyn Bear all the time. No one knew her name was Bronwyn until the day she was born. Her name fit her perfectly and so did Bear - she literally reminds us of a cute little bear hehe. So now for short her nic name has been B-Bear and we just love it!

I am sentimental at heart, so I wanted the theme of her birthday to be more about her than anything else. So I decided to do a Teddy Bear Tea Party - it was pretty easy to put together, as I had a lot of the items already and just wanted it to be simple and elegant. Before her party though, I did a cake smash session of her just in our living room to celebrate her 1st birthday and I of course made sure to match the theme to her party too.

2018-05-21_0008.jpg
2018-05-21_0007.jpgA few of these teddy bears were ones we had before Bronwyn was born, that giant one was from costco that I got as a little girl and the two brown ones were during my husband and my first few years as boyfriend and girlfriend. The white one says ‘my first teddy’ on it and was given to Bronwyn from her Uncle Josh (my oldest brother) in the hospital when she was born. The banner was created by myself - I had tons of lace ribbon in my craft storage bins already and got some great deals at Michaels after Easter on the larger pink and white ones. I was inspired from a blog I stumbled across on pinterest - it was super easy to make!
Her adorably sweet headband was created by the lovely Violet Ivy Handmade - her headband matched perfectly to her birthday dress that I found at winners and it was exactly what I had in mind for her.

The cake was made by Yummy in my Tummy - Lisa’s Sweets & Treats, I told her I just wanted a simple cupcake cake and she did such a beautiful job! As you can tell, Bronwyn really enjoyed it - mostly sticking her feet in it, lol!

2018-05-21_0012.jpg

Ryu of course had to help clean up… notice her feet aren’t as covered anymore….oh these two, they’ll be best friends for sure lol.

2018-05-21_0013.jpgWe held her Birthday Party on her actual birthday since it landed on a Saturday this year and it was so perfect. I was a little nervous at the beginning because she’s such a shy girl, she’s attached to me when theres too many unfamilar faces, she also gets very hangry. So after a little bit of warming up to people, I fed her and she was in much better spirits and played with her friends and family. She was even better once she had MORE cake. This child is good for cake for another year now… seriously.

2018-05-21_0003.jpg
2018-05-21_0005.jpgWe held the party in my mom’s condo party room (many family events have been in this party room)  - the space worked out great to setup our food tables. My mom made a sandwhich buffet - egg, tuna and salmon salad sandwhiches. People just grabbed their buns and chose what they liked. There was also cheese balls, veggies and dip, punch, ice tea, coffee/tea and a dessert table full of cookies, fruit and a delcious birthday cake for our sweet girl.

2018-05-21_0001.jpg

The cake was created by the talented CakeWalk Confections in Whitby.  I found a cake with a teddy bear tea party theme off pinterest and wanted something similar - it was basically the main decor of the party. It turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I was so happy and impressed with the entire thing and everyone asked where it was made. It also tasted delicious - light and fluffy! I was just so impressed overall that I am ordering from her again in a few weeks for another family celebration.

2018-05-21_0004.jpg

Since I am also a graphic designer, I like to create a lot of my own decor on the computer. I quickly whipped up a birthday stat poster to go along with her theme and match her birthday invite I created too. It wasn’t my best work, but I was putting in some late nights getting things ready and I nearly forgot I wanted to make this. My husband and I got Bronwyn two gifts that are pretty special too - one was this personalized birthday book by iSeeMe. I was so happy with how it looked, such a special keepsake (like I said, I am very sentimental!!).

2018-05-21_0006.jpgSince it was a tea party theme - I wanted a vintage style highchair for our Birthday girl to sit in. I borrowed this from a fellow photographer and it was perfect! I can’t thank her enough for letting me use it. It definitely made her party come together perfectly. The 12 month photo board was just a cork board I used for our wedding ceremony sign actually, same with the easel as well.

Thanks for checking out all of the details of our little girls Teddy Bear Tea Party. I loved putting this together to celebrate her, it was the most perfect 1st Birthday for our sweet girl.

Extraordinary Hand Lettering | Pink Lemonade Party

If you have ever had the chance to work with Doris Wai then you will know she is one talented and incredibly sweet human being. If you have yet to work with her, then do so IMMEDIATELY but before you do - check out this absolutely adorable styled session that I had the honour of photographing. The talented dream team behind this was Doris Wai - Love Lettering, Southern Charm Vintage Rentals and Cakelaine

Doris is the Mom to her lovely daughter Melody, and of course having a little girl is very inspiring for all things pretty and pink! This adorable session was perfectly put together as a birthday party theme. We put this session together on labour day weekend in September of 2016 - dodging sun left, right and center all morning, but it came together in the end and looked beautiful in print for Doris’ book, Extraordinary Hand Lettering. If you are a fan of hand lettering - you will want to grab a copy of this book, the tips and tricks Doris shares with you are amazing and so inspring to help your craft of hand lettering grow even more.

You can purchase the book online at Amazon, Chapters/Indigo & Barnes & Noble.

Here is a preview of some of my favourite shots from the session! Enjoy!
